Germany’s Forschungsdatenzentrum Gesundheit (FDZ) has announced an extension to its data model that now incorporates ambulatory specialist care, meaningfully broadening the scope of claims-based research available through the platform. Previously, analyses were largely anchored in inpatient and primary care data, leaving a notable gap in the outpatient specialist pathway — a critical juncture for many chronic and oncology indications. This development brings FDZ closer to enabling genuine end-to-end patient journey analyses within the statutory health insurance framework. The extension aligns with growing regulatory and HTA expectations for richer, more contextually complete real-world evidence in market access submissions. For pharma and MedTech teams pursuing RWE strategies in Germany, this expanded data architecture warrants prompt re-evaluation of feasibility assessments for studies previously considered impractical or insufficiently powered using FDZ infrastructure.
